Day 47 “A Year of Thoughts”: No One Wants To hear It.

Complaining. Growing up my mom use to say “no one wants to hear it” when one of us kids was complaining about something. In the course of my day I found myself complaining, I didn’t start the day right and failed to remind myself not to complain. That complaining attitude came through throughout the day. Inside I was complained about the homework I needed to do, yet I waisted time and didn’t do it. I found myself complaining about the little jobs that I had to do at work. Complaining makes me unhappy, I complain about my complaining.

But as I prepare for sleep I have hope that I will be able to not complain tomorrow and find ways to enjoy everything in life. I want to consider life pure joy. To focus and not waist the time so that I have nothing to complain about.

Day 32 “A Year of Thoughts”: Observe. Ask Questions.

How often do we stop and observe the world around us? While on a walk today with my best friend we talked a lot about a number of things but we came to this point where we stopped on this dirt road that runs between two fields, in that moment we just took in the view. A pheasant spooked us a little when it flew out of the tall grass on the side of the road. Some birds were thought were orioles sung from their perches, the sky was bright blue and the moon stood out though the sun was clearly in the western sky. With each slow in take of breathe I tried to see something new and beyond what I saw I imagined what might be there.

In that moment there were four questions I asked my friend.

What do you hear?

What do you see?

What do you feel?

What is troubling your soul?

Ask these questions everyday. Observe the world around you. Take a deep look into your soul, what is troubling you? What we see, hear, touch, and feel, forces us to be honest with ourselves and our world. What are we observing? What are we experiencing?

Observe.

Ask Questions.

Day 17 “A Year of Thoughts”: An Almost Forgotten Piano Lesson

An Almost Forgotten Piano Lesson

I’d almost forgotten those symbols and lines

That for years guided sounds from my mind

Through my bloodstream and heart to the keys

Those hammers and strings like simple poetry

Spoken soft and sweet to delicate baby ears

And retelling folklore to the men here to old

To hear the noise of crash, chords and melody

It almost seems as though centuries of rust

Scraped off my boney hands for jazz lines

Swinging through my refreshed musical mind.
